Telehealth process

How TruVera works

How does TruVera telehealth work?

You complete a 5–10 minute online intake covering your health history, current symptoms, and treatment goals. A licensed US clinician reviews your intake β€” typically within 24 hours β€” and, if clinically appropriate, issues your prescription. Your medication is compounded by a licensed US pharmacy and shipped discreetly to your door. Your care team is available through the patient portal for ongoing questions and adjustments.

Who qualifies for treatment through TruVera?

Eligibility depends on the specific program. For GLP-1 weight-loss medications, most adults with a BMI of 27+ with related health concerns or a BMI of 30+ may be eligible. Every application is reviewed individually by a licensed clinician who evaluates your full health picture before any prescription is approved β€” your safety always comes first.

Do I need to see a doctor in person?

No in-person visits required. All consultations happen online through the TruVera platform. If your clinician determines an in-person evaluation or lab work is needed, they'll let you know during the review process.

How long does the full process take?

From completed intake to medication in hand is typically 3–5 days. Intake and clinician review takes under 24 hours for most patients. Compounding and overnight shipping adds another 2–3 days.

Peptides & medications

About your treatment

What are peptides and how are they different from traditional medications?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids β€” the same building blocks the body uses naturally. Unlike broad-spectrum drugs, many peptides are targeted: they signal specific cellular pathways (metabolism, inflammation, sleep, tissue repair) with fewer off-target effects. Most peptides TruVera prescribes are compounded, meaning they are prepared by a licensed US pharmacy to match your specific prescription rather than produced as mass-market drugs.

How is compounded GLP-1 different from brand-name medications like Ozempic or Wegovy?

Compounded GLP-1 medications use the same active ingredients found in brand-name products but are prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies and customized to your prescription. They are a more budget-friendly option, though it is important to note they are not FDA-approved in the same way as brand-name drugs.

What happens if the medication I'm prescribed is out of stock?

In the rare event of a supply disruption, your TruVera provider will review your treatment plan and may recommend an alternative medication with the same active ingredients or a comparable mechanism. Our goal is to make sure your progress never stalls β€” we'll work quickly to keep your care on track without interruption.

Can I switch medications if the first one isn't working?

Absolutely. If your results plateau or your provider determines a different medication may be a better match for your health goals, a transition can be made safely. Your TruVera provider will guide you through the process and set appropriate expectations along the way.

Are compounded peptides FDA-approved?

Most peptides TruVera offers are not FDA-approved as standalone drugs. They are prepared by licensed US pharmacies under Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, which permits patient-specific compounding with a valid prescription. Each product page includes full regulatory status for that specific peptide.

Your care team

Working with your clinician

Is there a real doctor-patient relationship?

Yes. Every TruVera prescription is written by a US-licensed clinician who has reviewed your intake, medical history, and current medications. The clinician is your prescriber of record, and you can message them through the patient portal throughout your treatment. If clinically relevant, they may request additional labs, a phone/video call, or a local in-person evaluation.

Will I need to make changes to my diet or lifestyle?

For most programs, yes β€” lifestyle support amplifies medication results. GLP-1 therapy, for example, works best paired with a reduced-calorie diet and consistent physical activity. Your TruVera care team will provide personalized guidance to help you build habits that support lasting success.

How does my clinician track my progress?

Your clinician reviews your check-ins and any labs you upload through the patient portal. Depending on the program, you may be asked to log weight, symptoms, side effects, or biomarker results. This lets your clinician adjust your dose or protocol without a scheduled appointment β€” care keeps moving at the pace your body needs.

What if I have questions between check-ins?

Message your care team anytime through the patient portal. Non-urgent questions are typically answered within 24 hours. For anything urgent, we recommend contacting your primary care provider or, in an emergency, calling 911.

Symptoms & results

What to expect from treatment

How quickly can I expect to see results?

Timelines vary by treatment. GLP-1 patients typically notice appetite changes within 1–2 weeks and begin losing weight in the first month; most TruVera patients lose 1–2 lb/week with consistency. Peptide therapies vary β€” some are measured in days (sleep, mood), others in weeks to months (tissue repair, cognitive, longevity). Your clinician sets expectations specific to your program.

What side effects should I watch for?

Every medication has a side-effect profile that your clinician will review with you before prescribing. Most are mild and improve as your body adjusts. Contact your care team through the portal if side effects are severe, persistent, or interfering with daily life β€” your clinician can adjust your dose, switch your medication, or pause treatment.

Can people with type 2 diabetes use TruVera?

Some GLP-1 medications are FDA-approved for managing type 2 diabetes, and TruVera providers are equipped to work with patients whose goals involve blood sugar management alongside weight loss or other health priorities. During your consultation, your provider will determine the best medication based on your primary health objectives.

How long do the results last?

Clinical research supports sustained benefits over extended periods of treatment. TruVera providers monitor your progress over time, making adjustments as needed to keep results consistent. For programs like GLP-1 therapy, some benefits diminish after stopping treatment β€” your clinician will discuss a long-term plan that fits your goals.

Pricing & insurance

What it costs and how to pay

How much does a TruVera program cost?

Pricing varies by program. Most start between $129–$299 per month and include your clinician visits, medication, shipping, and care-team access β€” no hidden fees, no contracts. Full pricing is listed on each product page, with savings available on quarterly and annual plans.

Does TruVera accept insurance?

TruVera is a cash-pay telehealth program and does not bill insurance directly. However, many patients use their HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost of their program. If your plan offers reimbursement for brand-name medications, you are welcome to explore that option separately.

What if my insurance doesn't cover my medication?

TruVera operates on a simple cash-pay model, so there is no need to navigate complicated insurance approvals. Our compounded medications are priced to be genuinely affordable, so most patients find insurance coverage is not necessary to get great results.

Can I pause or cancel my subscription?

Yes. You can pause or cancel at any time through your TruVera patient portal β€” no phone calls, no cancellation fees. If you have questions about your protocol before cancelling, your care team is always available to discuss adjustments.

Shipping & storage

Getting and keeping your medication safely

Do I need to refrigerate my medication?

Most injectable GLP-1 and peptide medications should be kept refrigerated (36–46Β°F) until use. Some oral therapies are stable at room temperature. Every TruVera shipment arrives with clear, easy-to-follow storage instructions specific to your medication so you always know exactly what to do.

How is my medication shipped?

TruVera ships in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging via overnight or expedited courier. You'll receive tracking from the moment your order leaves the pharmacy. If your medication requires cold-chain handling, we include ice packs and insulated liners rated for the shipping duration.

What do I do if my shipment arrives damaged or warm?

Message your care team through the patient portal right away. We'll verify the issue, replace any compromised medication at no cost, and investigate with the pharmacy and carrier. Your safety is non-negotiable.

How long does my medication stay good once I start using it?

This is called the beyond-use date and varies by formulation. Your medication label and shipping paperwork will list the specific date. For most refrigerated injectables it ranges from 30–60 days after first use. When in doubt, check the label or ask your care team.
